You Call It Acceptance. Your Nervous System Calls It Containment. You think you’ve accepted them, but your mind is still looping and your body is still reacting. This is what’s actually happening under that “I’ve made peace with it” story.
Their behavior triggers your awareness of imbalance → activates resentment (built over years) → reinforces your Overfunctioner role → leads to background rage leaking into everything.
So even though you’ve “accepted” them… your nervous system hasn’t. It just stopped arguing and started simmering.
Right now you’re doing: Trigger → Emotion → Analyze → Rehash → Loop
This isn’t a mystery spiral, it’s a repeated pattern with a known source. So you don’t need deeper insight, you need shorter engagement time because right now you’re not being taken down by the situation…you’re being drained by reprocessing the same damn file every day like it’s new information.
It’s not new, it’s just… them… and unfortunately, that file has already been fully downloaded.
What you want is: Trigger → Label → Contain → Move on
When something happens:
Instead of:
“this is so fucked up, why are they like this?”
You go:
“Overfunctioner activated. Background rage incoming.”
That’s it. Label to contain.
Then you do ONE of two things:
Option A: Do nothing extra
- don’t compensate more than necessary
- don’t fix their incompetence beyond baseline safety
Option B: Redirect energy
- immediately put the energy into something that builds you up.
You may not be exploding… but you are simmering like a pot that’s been left on low heat since 2008. If you don’t interrupt this, you don’t get relief, you just get better at tolerating it.
